Child Protection Policy

1. Policy Statement

MedParent Private Limited is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We believe that all children have the right to be protected from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect all staff, tutors, volunteers, contractors, and associates to share this commitment.

This policy applies to all activities, including:

​

  • Online tuition

  • In-person tuition

  • One-to-one and group sessions

  • Communication with students and parents

  • All company platforms, systems, and events

2. Legal Framework

 

This policy is informed by and complies with UK legislation and guidance, including:

​

  • Children Act 1989 & Children Act 2004

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023)

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)

  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006

  • The Education Act 2002

  • The Data Protection Act 2018 (UK GDPR)

  • NSPCC Safeguarding Standards

 

3. Definitions

​

  • Child / Young Person: Anyone under the age of 18

  • Safeguarding: Protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of health or development, and ensuring safe, effective care

  • Abuse: A form of maltreatment including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, or neglect

  • DSL: Designated Safeguarding Lead

 

4. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

 

MedParent appoints a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who has overall responsibility for safeguarding.

The DSL is responsible for:

​

  • Acting as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns

  • Ensuring safeguarding policies are implemented

  • Making referrals to external agencies when required

  • Maintaining secure safeguarding records

  • Ensuring staff receive safeguarding training

 

A Deputy DSL will be appointed to cover absences.

 

Contact details for the DSL are available to staff and parents upon request.

 

5. Roles & Responsibilities

 

Company Directors

​

  • Ensure safeguarding is prioritised across the organisation

  • Allocate appropriate resources

  • Ensure compliance with legislation

 

Tutors & Staff

​

  • Maintain a child-centred approach

  • Remain vigilant to signs of abuse or neglect

  • Follow reporting procedures without delay

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times

 

Parents & Guardians

​

  • Share relevant safeguarding or medical information

  • Ensure children attend sessions in a safe environment

  • Raise concerns promptly

 

6. Types of Abuse Recognised

 

Staff are trained to recognise the following:

 

Physical Abuse

​

  • Hitting, shaking, burning, choking, poisoning

 

Emotional Abuse

​

  • Humiliation, intimidation, isolation, persistent criticism

 

Sexual Abuse

​

  • Any sexual activity involving a child, including online exploitation

 

Neglect

​

  • Failure to meet basic physical or emotional needs

 

Additional Safeguarding Risks

​

  • Online abuse

  • Radicalisation and extremism

  • Child sexual exploitation (CSE)

  • Child criminal exploitation (CCE)

  • Bullying and cyberbullying

  • Domestic abuse

  • Self-harm or suicidal ideation

 

7. Recognising Signs of Abuse

 

Indicators may include (but are not limited to):

​

  • Unexplained injuries

  • Sudden changes in behaviour or performance

  • Withdrawal or fearfulness

  • Inappropriate sexual knowledge

  • Poor attendance or engagement

  • Disclosure by the child

 

A single sign does not confirm abuse, but concerns must never be ignored.

 

8. Responding to a Disclosure

 

If a child discloses abuse:

​

  • Listen calmly and attentively

  • Do not promise confidentiality

  • Do not investigate or ask leading questions

  • Reassure the child they have done the right thing

  • Record the disclosure verbatim where possible

  • Report immediately to the DSL

 

9. Reporting & Escalation Procedures

 

All safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately to the DSL.

If there is:

​

  • Immediate danger → Call 999

  • Serious safeguarding concern → Local Authority Children’s Services

  • Uncertainty → DSL will seek advice from safeguarding agencies

 

Failure to report concerns is a disciplinary matter.

 

10. Online & Remote Learning Safeguarding

 

MedParent takes online safety seriously.

 

Measures include:

​

  • Tuition conducted only on approved platforms

  • No private social media contact with students

  • Professional language and behaviour at all times

  • Cameras encouraged where appropriate

  • Parents aware of session times and formats

  • No recording of sessions without consent

 

Tutors must never:

​

  • Communicate with students privately outside approved channels

  • Request personal images or information

  • Engage in informal or personal conversations

 

11. Professional Boundaries & Code of Conduct

 

All staff must:

​

  • Treat children with dignity and respect

  • Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries

  • Avoid favouritism

  • Avoid being alone with a child where possible

  • Never transport students unless formally agreed

 

Any breach of conduct will be investigated.

 

12. Safer Recruitment & Vetting

 

MedParent operates a safer recruitment policy, including:

​

  • Enhanced DBS checks

  • Identity verification

  • Qualification verification

  • Safeguarding training before teaching

  • Ongoing monitoring

 

No individual will work with children without appropriate clearance.

 

13. Use of Technology & Data Protection

 

  • Student data is stored securely

  • Access is limited to authorised staff

  • Data is handled in line with UK GDPR

  • Safeguarding records are confidential and retained appropriately

 

14. Allegations Against Staff

 

Any allegation against a tutor or staff member will be:

​

  • Taken seriously

  • Reported immediately to the DSL

  • Escalated to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) where required

  • Managed confidentially and fairly

 

Staff may be suspended during investigations where necessary.

 

15. Whistleblowing

 

Staff are encouraged to report concerns about:

​

  • Unsafe practice

  • Poor safeguarding behaviour

  • Failure to act on concerns

 

Whistleblowers will be protected from victimisation.

 

16. Training & Awareness

​

  • All staff receive safeguarding training

  • Training is refreshed regularly

  • Updates are provided when guidance changes

 

Safeguarding is embedded into company culture.

 

17. Policy Review

 

This policy is reviewed:

​

  • Annually

  • Following any safeguarding incident

  • When legislation or guidance changes

 

18. Policy Approval

 

This policy has been approved by MedParent Private Limited and is effective immediately.
